Textron Systems COMMANDO

Textron Systems Marine & Land Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) business, has a $15,221,528 firm-fixed-price, foreign military sales contract from the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Mich., to provide 10 COMMANDOTM Select four-wheeled armored vehicles, along with related fielding hardware and technical services, to the Bulgarian National Military Forces. The vehicles initially will be deployed in support of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.

Work will be performed in Slidell, La., Hunt Valley, Md. and Afghanistan with vehicle deliveries in the first quarter of 2015. All contract activities are expected to be completed by June 30, 2015.

Three COMMANDO Select variants will be delivered, consisting of turreted vehicles with co-axially mounted 40mm Mk-19 and .50 cal machine guns, a command and control (C2) variant with turret, and an ambulance variant used for patient treatment and transport. The C2 vehicles integrate Textron Systems’ proven Remote Video Terminal technology for real-time situational awareness from a variety of unmanned systems and other sources. The company’s family of remote terminals is fielded around the world.The Bulgarian National Military Forces currently has seven COMMANDO vehicles in service.  Delivered in 2008, these vehicles have been in continuous operation with the ISAF in Afghanistan. Textron Systems also is under contract to provide the Bulgarian Army with technical support in Afghanistan and quarterly training in Bulgaria.

The (EU) European Commission has adopted the 2014-2020 Operational Program for “Innovation and Competiveness” in Bulgaria, worth around €1.39 billion ($1.5 billion) of investments to develop the Bulgarian economy, of which €1.18 billion ($1.2 billion) coming from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Bulgaria was one of seven Northern and Eastern European countries that are members of NATO: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Romania. The 1955, Warsaw Pact members included the Former Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. The Warsaw Pact treaty called on the member states to come to the defense of any member attacked by an outside force and it set up a unified military command under Marshal Ivan S. Konev of the Former Soviet Union. The  Warsaw Pact was formed when the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on May 9, 1955 made West Germany a member of NATO and thus to be re-armed.On May 7, 1945, Germany signed an unconditional surrender at Allied headquarters in Reims, France.
